Boughton Monchelsea

Boughton Quarries curious cottages

Follow the Loose Valley to Boughton Quarries and you will come across several 19th century cottages

built by John Braddick of Boughton Mount Estate. They are easily identified by their slate-roofed

verandas, supported on roughly trimmed tree trunks or planed poles. Some of the cottages feature stone tablets, two of which are inscribed with ‘commandments’ to Braddick’s farm workers.
